A poem for me…from Leon Baker

Well there I am ill as ever at work thanks to poor old Coats and his cold when Leon Baker sends though this:

Have you seen Addam Hassan, who lives on Drury Lane?
It’s rumoured he’s a muffin man, with blueberries for a brain
And a heart of lemon curd, or bran. But we owe it to explain
That he’s no relation to Saddam, being marginally Hussein.

I hasten to credit Morphy with the original comparison of the eminent Hussan to baked goods. Although my mother would disapprove, because according to her childhood memories of the East End, “muffins” were what we now call crumpets, and modern muffins didn’t exist. “Nasty Yankee things”, she muttered at me.

Mind you, Addam looks a bit like those as well.
