I find the whole Web 2.0 quite funny but that could be because I don’t understand it and don’t have the whole picture when I think about it. There are loads of jokes and groups about how Web 2.0 is rubbish etc. and they may have a point. Why am I posting this? Well I found an interesting article on the O’Reily network that may help some people including myself. One of the things that I liked was in the article was this:
| Web 1.0 | Web 2.0 | |
|---|---|---|
| DoubleClick | –> | Google AdSense |
| Ofoto | –> | Flickr |
| Akamai | –> | BitTorrent |
| mp3.com | –> | Napster |
| Britannica Online | –> | Wikipedia |
| personal websites | –> | blogging |
| evite | –> | upcoming.org and EVDB |
| domain name speculation | –> | search engine optimization |
| page views | –> | cost per click |
| screen scraping | –> | web services |
| publishing | –> | participation |
| content management systems | –> | wikis |
| directories (taxonomy) | –> | tagging (”folksonomy”) |
| stickiness | –> | syndication |
