Include blogs in your web surfing experience

“Blogger Web Comments is a Firefox extension from Google that lets see what bloggers are saying about a web page you’re visiting….”

O.k I’ve seen this before sometime ago and always thought that it could be exploited for spam reasons. For instance right now I’m writing about it with the exact same heading from the article I’m writing about. This was done automatically but then again it’s not the biggest deal. Worst case scenario is a bot could keep publishing on high traffic pages so that users wanting to see other bloggers comments would only see the spammers comment/site.

I’m guessing that Blogger and the way the results that get displayed do have some kind of spam filter in place. Naturally I’m not going to try but would be interested to see if that option could work.

Kelly Richards the Dental Nurse…

I’ve noticed I haven’t put a picture up of Kelly and that’s due to Kelly Richards not liking photos taken of her. Why we shall never know, but on the rare occasion she doesn’t mind, so this morning I to quick snappy of her!

On the subject of girlfriends and the like Jonny has posted a picture of his girlfriend as well Daves girlfriend on his site.

Additional Contact & Confidential Information…

I don’t send out many e-mails but when I do I tend to not use my little signature that I spent 10 minutes on. Mainly because it’s not professional enough. Anyway instead I’m going to publish it here and not use it again. So good by email signature….

Bluetoothing on the train

Bluetoothing is a term used to describe when you connect two devices or more via the wireless technology called Bluetooth. You can find more information about the specifics of bluetoothing and the technology behind it at the Official Bluetooth website.

So why am I going on about bluetoothing? Well on Monday I was subject to some friendly bluetoothing unlike, Bluetooth hijacking, on the train back from a meeting. This simply comprised of a few contact messages saying hi etc. I didn’t reply to them and left it as that. However should I have replied with her mobile name being lemonpillows?…Well I hope it was a female anyway.

Then on Tuesday my second bluetoothing experience, whilst on a train, happened. This time though rather then sending silly messages…I got some media files. I’ve uploaded the ones I liked for you to download and share.

Shaggy gets a taxi
South Park

Some of the other media files were not so good and even illegal in this country, and quite rightly so. Now all was well and good until the person sent a picture of where they were sitting which freaked me out a bit.

Bluetoothing is fun…until it becomes real. Be safe kids!

PHP Link Directory…the install

Web directories are…well they are not the coolest thing thing going on the web. Infact I have never used them before. It’s either straight to Google to find something I want or a recommendation from a friend. However my interest has grown of recently largley to Dan’s new web directory Info Now Web Directory.

So I have looked around for a php based web directory and found PHP Link Directory. I’ve got a cool domain seetheweb.co.uk (which I’m not linking to just yet) simply becuase it’s a bloody nightmare working with the program and do not want it spidered. I think it looks good and will be easy to work with once I get it up and running. The community seems to be good for support and that is one of the major reasons why I have stuck with it.

There are however two problems I have encountered with PHP Link Directory. The first one being the URLrewrite. There are some mods on the forums that create the rewrite rule for you but they don’t seem to work for me. The other problem is the submit button. It used to work fine but it goes a bit funny every now and then….basically it’s just hanging. Anyway I’m starting all over again and going to try and work with the latest version and see where that gets me.

Kissifurs Kat Tales; The weird referer…

It makes me smile when I get some weird referer and today has to be my strangest one…looking through my stats I’ve got a site called Kissifurs Kat Tales. I don’t know why or how but it all seems a bit strange especially when you look at the fact that this blog was made only yesterday.

Another mystery for Mulder and Scully…then again it could be someone I know? But I don’t know anyone who writes do I?….Then again it could be that referer spam thing..but I don’t hink so. So who is the mystery writer? And no it’s not me!

Another excuse which elite-memorabilia failed to mention…

So as I thought alex10278 has replied with another excuse along side

  • I’m waiting for PayPal to clear the funds
  • I’m waiting for the hologram stickers to come through

and now the excuse his daughter was in hospital. Now I know this maybe true and if so I hope all is well, I really do. However you need to ask yourself “Why on earth did you not mention this before?” and it does seem the hospital is a great excuse that alex10278 who now has changed his eBay name to elite-memorabilia (eBay user ID history) has used before. Let us not forget if you do manage to give negative feedback to elite-memorabilia be aware that it can result to abusive name calling such as Drama Queen (thanks I like that) and Alex Forbes - the student - petty and sad and I would imagine more.

On top of this he has very kindly sent another e-mail

congratulations on your £70-00 Man United shirt. At least mine is the real thing - yours is definately a fake and for the feedback and a website description about our dealing - get a grip what a DRAMA QUEEN.

You need to get out the house more and keep taking your medication.

What a complete….. - well you know the rest

As you can see he was a little annoyed about me posting about what really went on. I feel I should also say that the shirt is not a fake but actually better than the ones you buy in the shop. This is because United shirts in normal retail outlets are made in Morocco where as the one I recieved is made in Portugal more information can be found here… With regards to “need to get out the house more and keep taking your medication.” Well that’s just sound advice to anyone really and just proves that elite-memorabilia are not only concerned with making up excuses but also your health.

So overall it’s not only poor service but a bit of name calling thrown in. My word what an eBay seller you are!

Leaving negative feedback on eBay…

Leaving negative feedback on eBay can always be a worry, and I refer to my personal experience that I wrote about earlier called “Can eBay protect you as a buyer?“. Well in the end I thought about what my personal feelings were and what eBays email meant to me as well. Finally I decided the best thing was to put up negative feedback.

Check out Alex10278’s feedback and you’ll see just after mine there is already negative feedback for something else. Below is a quick screenshot of what I left

Now today I’m pleased to say a refund has been made in full and the next stage is for Alex10278 to either give negative feedback or just accept was he has happened and push forward to make sure he improves his service to future customers. I would also like to add that I never got the item and therefore am not commenting on how good or bad his products were simply his service and attitude being extremely poor. Hopefully this is the end.

UPDATE: It’s not the end he left me some feedback. Take a look…

Can eBay protect you as a buyer?

eBay promise protection all over thier site and PayPal also offer an added protection as well. However here is a small case that I have experienced over the last few days.

I bought a Manchester United shirt signed by 20 players of the current squad on eBay. Great price and with a C.O.A. I can’t go wrong. Sure the feedback wasn’t 100% with this guy but what the hell it’s pretty much 99%. There had been a few ocassions where the seller had been delayed slightly but overall nothing to suggest what was going to happen. I think the email I sent to eBay after filing a complaint to PayPal pretty much sums up what happened and how I feel…

I purchased the item #8765654643. I have been promised time and
time again that the item would be sent out with special delivery. After
the last time I thought it would be best to start a complaint with
PayPal.

Email correspondance has been passed via your messaging system and you
are more than welcome to look through them.

Since then I have been forced to buy a likewise item due to the nature
of the present needing to be presented at a special occasion.

Naturally I was going to leave poor feedback and informed the seller of
this. This is of course how we as buyers can identify what kind of
service we can expect and what the eBay community rely on.

Sadly a strong reply was emailed to me which is more worrying than the
fact I may have lost nearly £100 pounds. The email had the line ‘…- so
go ahead if you wish - but my feedback will not be pretty.’

Not only will my 100% feedback be tarnished which is something that I
pride myself upon but the more worrying element of this email was the
fact that he has my home address, which I realise is needed to make any
trasaction a success. However with users such as alex10278 it really
brings to question is eBay safe.

What I’m asking for is how will I be safe guarded in this particular
transaction? Will my eBay reputation / feedback be harmed? And where do
sellers like alex10278 fit within the eBay buyer/seller community?

For now I will not pass poor feedback to alex10278 simply on the basis
I’m worried what will happen. I hope eBay look at this as an oppotunity
to excel and demonstrate what I feel is an excellent service!

Kind regards Addam Hassan

This I think pretty much summed up the whole experience so far. In the defence of eBay they have come back to me straight away with the following…

Hello Addam,

Thank you for writing to eBay with your concerns regarding the
possibility of receiving negative feedback from member “alex10278″,
relating to your purchase of their shirt (item number 8765654643). I can
appreciate your concern in this situation, as you would like to retain
your 100% feedback rating.

Feedback is continually a topic of discussion at eBay and probably
always will be. The fear of retaliation is the biggest concern when
feedback is discussed and wanting to maintain a blemish-free feedback
history is an understandable goal.

However, please consider the intended purpose of feedback. The Feedback
Forum is a completely open and fully disclosed site for members to leave
comments relating to their experience with other members. In order for
the Feedback Forum to be effective, all eBay members should remember to
check the feedback for every member prior to entering into a transaction
with him or her.

As a buyer, checking a seller’s Feedback Profile before you make a bid
is one of the smartest and safest moves you can make. You can use
feedback to access many different qualities - is the seller highly
recommended by other buyers? Do they sell quality merchandise?

By leaving feedback you as a buyer or seller will be exercising good
business practices. You are encouraging the eBay community to grow and
also you will earn positive testimonials yourself.

In fairness, we cannot prevent a user from leaving a retaliatory
negative comment, whether or not it was deserved. Please remember that
most members will look at your complete history when deciding if they
want to conduct business with you. As a conscientious, helpful and
honest member, you will always have many more positive comments that
will overshadow a few obvious retaliation feedback comments.

Unfortunately, if good honest members do not leave negative feedback
when warranted, out of fear of receiving a negative comment in return,
they are essentially letting the bad guys win. Most eBay members
understand that honest members will acquire a few “battle scars” in the
fight to expose the less then honest members of the community.

Other members do refer to a member’s full feedback history when
determining whether or not to enter into an eBay transaction with them.

It is very important that every member let their voice be heard by
leaving a comment, positive or negative, for members with whom they have
transacted eBay business.

Regarding your concern about having sent your payment and not having
received the shirt from this seller, I have also forwarded a copy of
your email to our Fraud department. They will be in touch with you soon,
as they are best qualified to respond regarding this matter.

Finally Addam, please also allow me to address your concerns about this
member having access to your home address. I understand your concern in
this situation. Please be assured that when registering, all members
provide their contact information with the understanding that this
information will not be sold or provided to any outside party. The only
way we will make any registered member’s contact information available
to any other registered member is by sending it via email per automated
request through eBay’s site.

When a request of this type is made, we send the contact information for
both members to each email address, meaning the requester’s information
is sent to you and your information is sent to them.

Please note that we never give out your street address in these
requests. Please also be assured that making a request for contact
information that is used for purposes unrelated to eBay business, or if
the information is published anywhere online or offline, or if the
information has been obtained for the purposes of harassment, is in
violation of eBay’s rules. If this should occur, please immediately
contact us through the webform at:

http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/contact_us/_base/index.html

Please remember that, although we are commonly referred to as an online
auction web site, we are not a traditional auction house. Instead, our
site acts as a venue to allow anyone to offer, sell, and buy just about
anything, at anytime, from anywhere, in a variety of formats, including
a fixed price format and an auction-style format commonly referred to as
an “online listing.”

eBay is not involved in the actual transaction between buyers and
sellers. As a result, we have no control over the quality, safety or
legality of the items advertised the truth or accuracy of the listings,
the ability of sellers to sell items or the ability of buyers to buy
items. We cannot ensure that a buyer or seller will actually complete a
transaction.

Addam, I appreciate the opportunity to have helped you with this
information and trust that it helps to ease your concerns about these
important feedback and safety issues.

Regards,

Tanya Smith
