Alex Asigno Rants

Long time coming, Alex from work has finally got his blog going. If you want to see what he’s ranting on about now then check out his site.

Don’t forget he’s also got a cool site called Code-d.

I really can’t wait to see how his blog turns out…..Alex it’s over to you.

Making Google AdSense relevant to your content

I’ve noticed while exploring the pages on this site that Google Adsense content is not relevant to my content. Well it is and it isn’t, let me explain. Sometimes I write a lot in one go so it’s very hard for the Google AdSense bot to select the area I wish it to follow and generate the relevant adverts.

A quick search on the Internet and I found out that Goggle AdSense actually does a facility to help combat this problem and it’s called “Section Targeting”. You can find more detailed information about “Section Targeting” here.

What you can do with section targeting is tell the Google AdSense to emphasise or downplay sections of your content when matching ads to your site’s content.

Now if your not too hot on the HTML front then maybe this isn’t for you, but I think mist people should be able to handle this simple tagging system. To get section targeting on your site you need to add a tag to the beginning and end of whichever section(s) you’d like to emphasise or de-emphasise for ad targeting.

The HTML tags to emphasise a page section take the following format:

<!– google_ad_section_start –>

<!– google_ad_section_end –>

You can also designate sections you’d like to have ignored by adding a (weight=ignore) to the starting tag:
<!– google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) –>

With these tags added to your HTML code, your final code may look like the following:
<html><head><title>Section targeting</title></head>

<body>

<!– google_ad_section_start –>

This is the text of your web page. Most of your content resides here.
<!– google_ad_section_end –>

</body>

</html>

Now this is all very good and stuff but Google AdSense does say it may take up to 2 weeks before their crawlers can take in to affect your changes. But you never know this could be the start of something beautiful…

Access any of your e-mail online at Mail2Web

My current hosting provider sucks big time for web mail. I like to check my mail from work every now and then but with their system it’s simply not possible or is it?

Well I found this site called Mail2Web.com which allows you to enter in your information i.e. login, mail exchange address etc. etc. In two seconds you’ve got a page load of your e-mail ready to be viewed. You can delete, respond and of course write e-mails (not that I do, I mainly use it for deleting spam etc.).

Where’s the catch? Well it’s free for the basic service which is fine for most people I think. The revenue is generated from adverts surrounding the e-mail, so it’s not all bad really.

Thought I would share this little gem, but I’m sure it’s been around for ages.

Spannerworks Football Club: Week 2

Playing this week at the Withdean were:

The Predator aka Jonathan Stewart
The Assistant aka David Coats
Marker Mark Higginson
White Stick Jo Wilson
Tom Morphy Richards : he’s always on boiling point!
Long Shots aka Neil Cains
Oh My Days Dan Goodwin
Tip Toes aka Addam Hassan
The Running Man aka Shuo Heng

We played two games this week with some excellent shooting from Jonathan Stewart which earned him the title The Predator. Long Shots (Neil Cains) played well at the back with Marker Mark Higginson being the surprising package of the week. Committed and marking well it was good to see him on board with Jo also coming along for the first time.

During the game we managed to annoy some tennis court players with some sublime shooting to rival Charlie boy from the England rugby team. However they very kindly did kick the ball back to us without too much fuss.

Man of the match has to be Jonathan Stewart for what is a massive improvement from last week skill wise coupled with the goal scoring which was on display. Marker Mark Higginson was very close to getting man of the match due to an excellent performance on his debut.

Tune / Music from New Sony Bravia LCD TV advert

O.k now the turn of Sony’s Bravia LCD TV to become my latest TV advert tune of my choice. Not only is the music really cool and chilled out but the advert itself is brilliant. You can find more stuff about the actual advert by clicking here.

The tune is by José González and is called Heartbeats. The actual music or tune of the Sony advert is really good. I’ve found a tasty link to the Amazon site that where you can only buy the album I’m afraid but the song does feature the Sony advert. The advert is filmed in San Francisco and features 250 000 coloured balls flying down in slow motion. It’s so flippin’ cool it untrue. There’s also a very cool part when a frog leaps out of a drain pipe. The other interesting feature about this advert is that no computers were used for graphics.

You can view/download the Sony Bravia LCD TV advert here. The website also has screen savers for MAC and PC as well as a photo gallery. I can’t wait for the next new advert that grabs not my eyes but my ears…

Brighton was brilliant…

Too much to say not enough time to say it so I’ll be brief for now…Brighton was fantastic this weekend! There that wasn’t too hard :)

The new Bacardi advert music…

I love the tune from the new Bacardi advert. It’s a cool advert as well. The tune is from Deep Dish and it’s called Say Hello.

Not a drinker of Bacardi really due to a bad exeprience of me being sick all over a friends house. However I say that, the next morning I woke up with a girl who then I went on to see for the next four and a half years. So not all bad at all….

I thought I would add a link so you can actually buy Deep Dish “Say Hello” as well…just in case you don’t download it from say….I dunno….

Staying in Brighton at David Coats pad…

David CoatsRecently one Friday after work was particularly great. It started off with quite a lot of people going over to Suga Cube which is opposite where I work. It’s a good place to go simply because it’s close, there is normally seats available and the music is pretty cool. Well I think some of the guys n girls may disagree with me but I think it’s good enough.

Anyway a lot of the Spannerworks crew went over there and I had the pleasure of sitting with Tom, Dan and David Coats initially. Now from what I can remember we started to have a laugh straight away. A little while later we swapped Tom for Carla.

(Pictures from David Coats Blog : Need An Answer, click here to see more photos from Jamie Clifford’s leaving do…)

Now the only thing I really can remember isDan Goodwin talking about my previous job within the adult industry. It’s certainly an area people seem to enjoy and I to be honest don’t mind talking about it either. It was a great time working there and will never forget some moments I had there.

Unfortunately Carla had to leave but not before saying the most classic line ever. As Carla was getting up to leave she said quite innocently to me something along the lines of “O.k well I have to go, I’ll have to probe you about your job another time…” From that moment David Coats, Dan and I lost it for a few minutes. Still today I mention that evening to Carla in front of the other guys and she puts on this grin and goes red. Bless you Carla we love you….

On with the night and it’s back down to David Coats, Dan and myself on one little table in the corner with the rest of the Spannerworks crew on the other side. Dan and David Coats went on talking about school life and which was interesting because they didn’t have the smoothest of rides at school. School for me was never like that. The only thing we were scared of was the teacher’s. Bullying was not something tolerated at my school regardless of who you were and I am really proud of that fact. Of course it’s probably changed by now…

We then went on to the subject of talking about decimal clocks. Now when I say we I mean David Coats. David Coats is a super intelligent guy in the science world in particular physics. After a few drinks he can rival Stephen Hawkins and the beef about clocks comes in to play. Now I don’t know how loud we were or how long we spoke about it but I do know I was crying again with laughter. Dan kept spoiling his theory and asking questions, which further lead David Coats to get a little aggressive in his explanation of the decimal clock and why as the world we are stupid for not taking on the decimal clock.

After a while Tim came over and said “you guys look like your having fun” which I can’t deny was true. However the sad fact is, and even now reading my own words, what we were saying would not sound funny to anyone else on this great earth except for the people actually there at the time. Thus why Tim got his drink and went back to join the rest of the team and we followed shortly afterwards.

Joining the big table was another chapter in the nights events I won’t forget too soon. I remember Dan and I were doing some excellent sit down dancing routines that was cracking me up because I would be talking to Dan saying “I like this song, how about you?” For which he replied “Nope.” And continue to put 110% in to the dance jiggle he was performing.

Following on from the dance Jiggle, arm wrestling came in to play. Now I can’t remember who started all this but I do know who finished it! Dan had squashed an opponent or two by the time we did our rumble in the jungle. Let’s just say I was Ali that night.

Now I know you might think I’m hamming this up but my arm was really weak after Dan and a couple of others when Charlotte asked for an arm wrestle. I was just going to play with her and then beat her (God that sounds so wrong!). Little did I know my strength was very weak at this moment and if it was not for some real hard effort I could of lost which wouldn’t of been good. It’s not nice when Charlotte says “are you trying?” and I’m like “Yea of course”, with a big smile to make it like I’m sort of when actually I’m praying this to be over.

Dan left a little while later leaving David Coats, Nils, Tim, Robin, Charlotte and maybe Abi. I do remember seeing Abi a few times but it’s a bit of a blur.
The next funny thing to happen was someone climbing over everyone and the sofa we were sitting on and breaking some little shelf thingy. Luckily only half the club heard the snap….

From there I remember sitting down one minute and then a young lady walking in front of me plonking herself down next to me. We had a little chat and that was that. Nice to know that there are actually people who can be friendly and confident enough to do that. You see in my town if a guy did that the girls would assume that your drunk, desperate and only have one thing in mind. I’m not going to whinge about Hastings in this post but I will soon in another post.

As the night drew to an end David Coats offered me his place to crash at, which was jolly nice of him to say the least. We bundled in to a taxi with Tim who also lives in Hove and made our way back. Pissed as big C’s we finally got back to David Coat’s place not before failing to negotiate our way in to another pub and buying half the bloody kebab shop.

The morning came and I made my way back home going through Hove. I love being in new places and finding my way out. Some people call this being lost but I knew roughly where I was so I just enjoyed the walk back to the station.

When I got to the train station I was perfectly on time. I thought this was my day until I hit Eastbourne which is another story…

Sweet night all in all and massive thanks to David Coats for letting me crash at his.

Athlete tickets at the Brighton Centre…

Buying tickets for Athlete is harder than you might think! This being the second time I have seen them I have tried desperately to get in the standing area rather than the seating area where my last tickets were.

The first time I went to see Athlete was at the Brixton Academy in London. It was brilliant and even though I only heard some of their songs before I was struck by how good their other songs were.

Tunes such as Wires, You Got Style and Half Light were obviously massive hits at the gig that got me hooked on to their anthem style music that they play. I still think about that gig a lot for a number of reasons, some of them which I cannot say but what I can say is the crowd and the lights (and of course the band) were in tune and amazing! It was electric to say the least. Now I did have more than my fair share of pints that evening, and so did some others! But I am not over exaggerating when I say that that night magic was free flowing from the stage right to the very back of the venue. Check out a few of these photos I found on the net from Avolites

Based on that experience I wanted to go see them again. As per usual Sam and Billy (who didn’t attend the last gig) are normally straight on to the bandwagon when the words ‘do you’ and ‘gig’ are mentioned in a sentence. Billy hasn’t been to too many gigs but Sam is a groupie of nearly every band in the world. She loves gigging so any chance she’s all over it like white on rice.

I was on the net trying to find people talking about the Brixton gig and found out that Athlete were coming to the Brighton Centre which is not too far away from St. Leonards On Sea (hmmm maybe it is ). Sam organised the tickets for Athlete and both Billy and Sam met me in Brighton after work.

We got to the Brighton Centre in good time to have a few drinks before the show started. The warm up was o.k but didn’t do the job they should of done. By the time Athlete was on everyone was sort of bored I suppose. There was no real buzz. I guess I was just comparing everything to Brixton. Athlete were good but I could tell they were trying to gee up the crowd with no luck.

Anyway the gig ended and we all made our way to the car park where Bill jumped a massive queue to pay for our ticket. Brilliant, we all thought, we can get home and to bed by somewhat of a reasonable hour. Oh how we were wrong….

The NCP car park was choc blocked and we weren’t getting anywhere fast. So I decided to wonder off to the pizza place to get some food. You could see on peoples faces that they weren’t impressed and considering it was a Monday night the vibe wasn’t good. However I was quite merry at that point being able to get out of the car park and stretch my legs. In the end I got the pizzas and the guys pulled outside just at the right time.

Big up to Sam for arranging the tickets for Athlete and the driving!

P.S. There were a couple of fit birds in the Pizza place that were wearing bunny outfits…shame about them falling over hahahaha. I will remember them!

Gensing and Central St Leonards On Sea Community

One thing I need to do is start collecting local websites for Gensing and St Leonards On Sea. I will add to this post as and when I find or people submit their sites. I was going to create a list of bloggers (blog owners) living in Hastings and the surrounding area. However a focused list like this is already being created at the TN38 site. So what I am going to do is create a list of links all about my area. It’s not going to rival UpMyStreet.com but I’m hoping it will grow to be a good source for people living in Hastings and St. Leonards On Sea.

Bloggers:
